After a steady drive down the road from Rob's finish I hopped out of the van leaving Diana the problem of getting it turned round. Dreading a repeat of Ben Fhada I was determined to pace this one better, I wanted to enjoy the run along the S. Cluanie ridge, first however was the small problem of Sgurr 'a Mhaoraich to get across.
It was a grey evening, it had been all day, very little wind, but at least the tops were clear. I walked (Pippa had made me promise not to run until the S Cluanie ridge proper) up the first hill, wondering how far I would get before dark. The top came quickly even at this pace. The descent to Glen Quoich turned out to be fast, very good running down a stream to the east side of Sgurr Thional, then more steeply down to the foot of a stalkers' path onto the Cluanie ridge. Climbing this the sun came out briefly, yes this was going to be a good run.
Creag nan Damh is not the most exciting hill, but at least I could run now, A small path led me along and I counted off the ascents/Munros left to go. Further along with the darkness gathering in, the lights at Cluanie Inn looked inviting, a quick spurt over the last two Munros brought the descent in sight, there was even some light left.
I stumbled down frequently jarring, and reached the road. Running along here I could makeout the vans camped along the road, and hoped Tony would be waiting at the changeover as I was a bit early. I need not have worried my 4 mile/hr rate was converted to 90 as Ian took us to Tony's start.
