The drive up Glen Lyon was superb and I lazed in the sun waiting for the off – a relaxing wait rather than draining nervous tension of night and early morning changes. The “red car” in the hands of Alwyn (Fargio) Nixon roared up – an arm reached out before it stopped and I took the medallion on the move. In fine weather and with no bivvy kit etc. I felt a sense of freedom but not quite the energy to go with it as the early steep slope reduced me to a walk. More peat hags reminiscent of yesterday and a short edge along the top with superb all round views – a real panorama and especially good views across Loch Rannoch.
Even a very fast finish to the descent left me outside my time again but it was an enjoyable little run. Ian looked shattered as he set off – but then I suppose we all do.

When Rob and Dave reached us at Killin having set Ian off, we had to get a move on. The car was low on petrol, so I went off to find some whilst Doug Gillon offered to take Tony and Colin up to Alwyn's finish.
It was sheer luck that I got petrol at the Lix Toll petrol station. It was closed, but the owner just happened to be filling his own car - he would fill mine so long as I paid the exact amount in cash. Without this stroke of luck things might have een very different that night.
Tony and I had bets on which items of kitchen and bedroom furniture Ian would dare to leave behind for his short leg on a sunny afternoon. I was surprised to find out later that he took nothing with him - we were both completely wrong.
