Today was to be one of those coffee-table book days I had had in mind when I first said “Yes” to the whole trip. Within 10 minutes of being rudely awakened by Ross I was above the valley mist and into beautiful early morning sunshine. The whole of Glen Etive and Glen Coe were filled with a sea of mist – spilling out onto Rannoch Moor whilst the ridge above was etched clear above the blue sky.
A hard day this, but a rewarding one. My imression of lots of climb was confirmed when I looked at the schedule on the back of the map to see over 2000 metres of climb. The only scar in these mountains is the ski parahernalia of the White Corries but this was soon left behind with the drop to the River Ba and an excellent view onto Rannoch showing just how much water there is on the moor. Highlight of the day was the 'wounded wing' dislay of a ptarmigan leading me away from her single chick.
The schedule was one of the tougher ones and, despite running the last two tops eyeballs out in just my shorts I arrived for the changeover with Ifor 10 mins down.
Down in the valley it was a hot day and there was no need to detour to cross the river by bridge – I simply held the rucksack above my head and waded over – bliss!! If anybody could guarantee 12 days like this you would sell places on this trip for hundreds of pounds.
